Brunch Bonanza at Bird & Bone

By Melanie Galarce

Do you guys remember that time that Mitch told you all about dinner at Bird & Bone? The restaurant, a self-proclaimed contemporary countryside farmhouse, offers soulful Southern cuisine through locally sourced ingredients from independent farms and organic butchers (so you feel a bit less guilty about the indulgent meal). Mitch might have told you all about the dinner, but on a rather steamy Sunday morning, I ventured to Bird & Bone’s home at The Confidante (4041 Collins Ave, Miami Beach) for brunch and was equally as impressed by the quality of the menu.

Good Old Yardbird

By Melanie Galarce

You’ve probably heard of a little known restaurant in South Beach by the name of Yardbird Southern Table and Bar (1600 Lenox Avenue, Miami Beach) as the accolades have amounted since the establishment opened up in 2011. The fresh and inventive (yet authentic) take on Southern cuisine has kept the restaurant with a never-ending waiting list and awards that range from James Beard finalist to Bon Appétit’s 50 Best New Restaurants. Brunch Like The Local

Brunch is a recipe for indulgence. First, combine the best of breakfast and lunch to make one super meal out of two. #MiamiSpiceMonday – Swine Southern Table & Bar

On this edition of #MiamiSpiceMonday, we conquer the South. Soulful Southern cuisine is synonymous with comfort and indulgence. Vivid images of fried chicken and mashed potatoes come to mind. I’ve always enjoyed the splurge of eating anything fried and not having to feel apologetic about it and as so, Southern food holds a special place in my heart. This Southern menu’s scene? Swine Southern Table & Bar, a self-proclaimed “house of worship to the porcine pursuit.” The simple and uncomplicated nature of Southern cuisine makes for a great gathering of friends and family over food; Swine offers just that. Providing a laid-back and soul-healing ambience in a two-floor space in Coral Gables that has traces of fancy lighting and décor but at its core remains comfy and cool.

Oh, Brother!

Despite being one of the southernmost cities in the country, Miami is not what you’d consider a true part of the “dirty South.” Miami is much more of a blend between Latin America and the Northeast, a rare city whose identity has nothing to do with its geography. That said, the Southern food trend has been going strong here for years now, with both upscale takes and down home joints popping up all over town. The newly-opened Brother Jimmy’s BBQ in South Miami has found a place somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, offering up serious Southern-style barbeque fare in a relaxed, yet clean and classy environment.
