Foodie Friday – Local Edition

Foodies, it’s almost time… That’s right, February is here and, in Miami, that can only mean one thing. The South Beach Wine & Food Festival is just around the corner! Make sure to get your tickets if you haven’t already (more on that below), but in the meantime we still 3+ weeks of exciting Miami food scene activities to get through. Between Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine’s Day (don’t miss Monday’s post!), and more, that should be more than enough to hold us over. Just don’t get too full now, #SOBEWFF is waiting. Enjoy!

SOBEWFF Goes Local

By Mitchell Nover, Melanie Galarce, Santi Cardona, Monique Gonzalez, and Mahogani Jones

Despite the fact that the South Beach Wine & Food Festival has been held in Miami for 16 years now, it hasn’t always represented the local chefs, restaurants, and flavors that our city has to offer. In recent years, however, we’ve noticed a shift towards the highlighting of more of the best and brightest of the South Florida foodie community. Never has that been more evident than this year’s Festival. Instead of events being all about Food Network stars, most events are now fronted by our local culinarians with the celebrity chefs playing the role of supporting players. And, you know what? It’s a beautiful thing.

Add to that the expansion to more neighborhoods and communities off of South Beach and the growing number of “unofficial” ancillary events, and it seems that SOBEWFF has officially gone local. With so much ground to cover this year, here at MMTM Headquarters we also felt the need to activate part of our own local team of foodies to help us cover multiple aspects of the weekend’s activities. The below is a team-effort recap of our 2017 SOBEWFF experiences. We hope you enjoy our take on the 2017 South Beach Wine & Food Festival!

Foodie Friday – Local Edition

Guys, it’s November! We can hardly believe that we’re fully in the throes of #HalloThanksMas, but such is life. This is a pretty intense month for us at MMTM Headquarters with Mel furiously prepping for The Latin GRAMMYs show in Las Vegas on November 17th and Mitch recovering from his brother’s wedding last weekend and heading out on the road for a few work trips as well. While we may not be around much, there’s actually so much taking place that we’ve separated out a special Thanksgiving round-up that we’ll have for you next Wednesday. In the meantime, here’s our round-up some of the best foodie events taking place this month. Enjoy!

SOBEWFF 2016: A Learning Experience

In MMTM’s three years of blog-istence, we’ve had three very different experiences as it relates to the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. It’s one of the most exciting times of year in Miami (for us foodies, anyway) and we love that we’ve been able to have had such different takes on it so far. Our first year was all about seeing our favorite Food Network Stars and making the most of discounted tickets and free events. Year two was more about highlighting the local chefs and restaurants we’d come to love and getting into as many events as possible. And this year, our third time around, was about seeing a different side of SOBEWFF, not biting off more than we could chew, and maybe, just maybe, learn a thing or two.

Mitch and Mel Take #SOBEWFF

Forgive us for waiting until Wednesday to post our recap, but it took a few days to digest all that took place during this year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival – literally and figuratively!

SOBEWFF weekend can be a foodie’s dream, but it is also a tough nut to crack. Strategy is key; make use of your personal connections, find free events, take advantage of online discounts and deals, and pick one or two big ticket items to splurge on. #somuchtoeatsolittletime
