Peace, Love & Hogfish at Chef Michael’s in Islamorada

By Mitchell Nover

Despite the lack of power and A/C that many Miamians had to deal with after Hurricane Irma, all things considered, our city fared pretty well during the storm. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for our neighbors to the south in the Florida Keys. It’s been tough to hear about the destruction they faced, however the good news is starting to trickle in and, as of October 1st, the island chain is officially back open for business and happily welcoming visitors and tourists. Of course there’s still a lot of work to be done, and considering The Keys are a special place for a lot of us up here in Miami, it’s important that we do our part to help stimulate the local economy.

So, here I am, trying to do my part by recommending a great discovery I made on a trip down to Islamorada back in July in the hopes that you’ll soon make a visit. Chef Michael’s (81671 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada) is a New American seafood restaurant that serves up polished dishes in an upscale, island-style setting.

Enjoy A Taste of the Mediterranean Coast at Panarea Mediterranean Sea Grill

By Mitchell Nover

While many restaurants boast a Mediterranean title, most usually focus on one specific area such as Greece, Spain or Italy. Panarea Mediterranean Sea Grill (11052 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami Shores) – named after the second smallest island of the Aeolian chain of volcanic islands in Italy and considered the heart of the Mediterranean – is bucking that trend by offering patrons a true representation of Mediterranean cuisine with dishes from southern Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel and northern Africa.

Shuck It On Down to Izzy’s Fish & Oyster

By Monique Gonzalez

If you’re a local, and reside on the mainland, chances are you may not frequent South Beach as often as you’d like. (Or, am I just an old lady who just doesn’t get out there as often as I should?) In any case, my latest #MMTM assignment forced me to cross the bridge and boy was it worth it…I fell in love. Her name’s Izzy. Izzy’s Fish & Oyster to be exact. After Mitch’s first visit for brunch after their grand opening, it was my turn to visit to see what was going on a year later.

River Yacht Club is Reviving the Miami River

By Sophia Costabal

Muy caliente. Two words that accurately describe Miami during the summer. These same two words can be adjectives used to describe the new summer menu created by Chef Alex Chang, the latest to helm the kitchen as part of the in-residence rotating chef program at The River Yacht Club (RYC). And, what is the best way to ward off the Miami heat? My answer is simple: fresh seafood fare with a Latin kick! And this is all representative in Chef Chang’s menu.

La Mar – A Peruvian Love Story

By Melanie Galarce

Few restaurants in Miami offer the opulence and culinary experience that La Mar does. The restaurant that carries the name of celebrity chef Gaston Acurio helms locations in Mexico City, Colombia, Chicago, and San Francisco, as well as in our own backyard inside the Mandarin Oriental located on Brickell Key. With killer views of Miami, the restaurant is spearheaded by Diego Oka, a seasoned chef of Peruvian and Japanese decent who has more than 10 years of experience working with the brand. Oka is the kind of guy you want to be best buds with, not only is his demeanor cool and down-to-earth but he’s firing up the best of novo-Andean and Asian-Peruvian fusion at his La Mar gig. That’s the type of food you should expect to enjoy, including traditional seafood ceviche in the form of small, tapas-style and large plates.

In mid-June, the team at La Mar invited us to try their new menu and we were blown away. The dishes are thoughtful and offer a fresh take on Peruvian cuisine classics. To follow is our vivid recap of the fusion rendezvous.

With that said, today we share our experience of Seaspice – a quintessentially Miami dining experience. Next to the Miami River, this restaurant offers an insight into what gives Miami its glitz and glam while managing to steal foodie hearts everywhere with its unassuming charm and out of this world menu.
