Mariachis, Margaritas & Upscale Mexican Cuisine at Cantina La Veinte

By Santiago Cardona

I’m all for the thought that Mexican food should be affordable and not fussed up. Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m in no way saying that it’s a cuisine that is not deserving of utmost care and sophistication. It’s honestly one of my favorite cuisines in the world, but it is hard to justify paying quite a penny for what is normally more affordable. Cantina La Veinte (495 Brickell Ave, Miami) has the idea of upscale Mexican down pact, providing diners with an elegant ambiance while maintaining the integrity of the food. Walking in, you get a feeling of grandiosity while perusing the decor. This place is downright gorgeous. When you add the mariachis, margaritas, and beautiful Brickell waterfront views, you’re in for a treat.

Bocas House Coral Gables: It’s More Than Just Milkshakes

By Santiago Cardona

Yeah, yeah. We get it. The milkshakes at Bocas House are decadent, delicious, and Instagram worthy. While this is all true, please don’t let the shakes be the only reason you go there. Like most of you, I only thought of Bocas House as “that place with the milkshakes.” But truth be told, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the food on a recent dinner at their new Coral Gables location (2 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables).

Shooters Steps it Up

By Santiago Cardona

Those familiar with the pre-2014 iteration of Shooters Waterfront (3033 NE 32nd Ave, Fort Lauderdale) remember the concept as one of bikini-clad parties, lots of alcohol, and somewhat sub-par bar food. While a concept such as that one is always fun (who in South Florida doesn’t love beach-themed parties?!), quality of the menu tends to suffer, as most creative resources are allocated to making sure people are having fun. February 2014, the more mature Shooters Waterfront opened under new ownership and renovations. Along with some stunning visual changes, the menu became more refined and upscale. It was quite the drive for me coming from Miami, but I was delightfully surprised with what I sampled.

Miami Spice Monday: Lure Fishbar

By Santi Cardona

Lure Fishbar (1601 Collins Ave, Miami Beach), located inside the Loews Hotel, is a classic South Beach seafood restaurant that has made a name for itself by serving approachable, quality food. While the dishes are normally not too inventive, the ingredients are procured from incredible sources, making for overall delectable dishes. I can say from personal experience that there are few restaurants in the area quite as consistent as this one, and it is one that I enjoy making a visit to on a consistent basis.

National Grilled Cheese Day with Grand Lux Cafe!

By Santi Cardona

I’ve been to quite a few Grand Lux Cafes in the past, and they never disappoint. For those that don’t know, Grand Lux Cafe is a sister concept to the Cheesecake Factory empire that boasts many similarities. Essentially, Grand Lux Cafe has the menu size, consistency, and execution of a Cheesecake Factory with more culturally-diverse food options and a slightly more upscale ambiance. South Florida has three locations (all at large malls), but I was lucky enough to try the one at Aventura Mall (19575 Biscayne Blvd, Aventura).

Cochon Cook-Off

By Santi Cardona

Cochon555 is no newbie in Miami and, this year, it came back bigger and better than ever. After four previous installments, this pork-centric event made it to the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach in hopes of pitting five chefs against each other, duking it out to be named the Prince or Princess of Porc.

MMTM’s Best of 2016!

We’re officially in to Week 2 of 2017, but we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to 2016 just yet and are taking one final chance to reminisce about our “Year in Food” in 2016. In looking back at some of our best bites (and sips) across Miami this past year we’re adding in a few more opinions this time around, with some favorites from our new contributing writers as well. 2016 was a great year of growth for us here at MMTM Headquarters and we couldn’t have done it without them. We’re excited to let you get to know them even better in the year to come. And, of course, we couldn’t do any of this without you… Thanks, as always, for following along on our foodie adventures.
