The Alley (1433 Collins Ave, Miami Beach) inside The Betsy Hotel on South Beach is a trattoria-style Italian pizzeria offering elevated renditions of brick-oven pizzas with unique toppings and daily pasta specials.
Happy Foodie Friday! Cheers to the weekend after a short week (for some of us). What do you have planned this weekend? We’re not quite sure what we will be exploring, but it will probably involve dining and the outdoors as we continue to soak up the perfect Miami winter weather. We hope you have an amazing weekend, and we leave you with a few fun foodie links from around the web (including Eater’s Miami Heat Map of the hottest places to check out these days)!
Hey, foodie fam! As alluded to in my Forte dei Marmi review a couple of weeks ago, I’ve had an overhaul in my dietary lifestyle… After mistakenly watching a Netflix documentary about food, I did the unthinkable and became vegan. This coming from someone who had never been on a diet to going cold turkey and cutting out all animal products from one day to the next. However, life is all about balance, so cheat meals are just plain necessary and what better way to reward yourself for months of successfully sticking to a restrictive diet than with authentic, homemade pizza? Why pizza, you ask? Well, I believe in a past life I must have been Italian because the love I have for pizza, pasta, and wine is just not normal. The answer for any of the aforementioned items will ALWAYS be yes – vegan diet or not. Needless to say, I was over the moon when I found out that one of the new restaurants at CityPlace Doral was Angelo Elia Pizza (3535 NW 83rd Ave, Suite 133, Doral.) Even from just the entrance where an enormous wine vault affectionately greets you, I could tell this place had the potential to become a routine go-to option.
Hey there, foodie friends. It’s officially Fri-yay which means we’re celebrating the weekend. We’re still waiting for the Miami fall breeze to kick-in, but we’ll take the drop in humidity any day. Do you have any fun foodie plans this weekend? Mel is hanging out and laying low since she’s almost 9 months pregnant, while Mitch is getting ready to travel the Caribbean for business. Who is getting the better end of the stick here? We hope you guys have an amazing weekend with some foodie adventures sprinkled in. To help jump start the few days of relaxation, we leave you with some fun foodie links. Enjoy!
I know that May is National Hamburger Month and National BBQ Month, but artificial foodie holidays be damned… I’m in the mood for pizza! So, when it comes to pizza, we all know that Miami is not New York, and that’s perfectly fine. I get it, people looooove NY pizza. There’s something in the water, yada yada yada. But, how about a little diversity, foks? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that’s what makes Miami’s food scene so great: diversity in food. Including, you guessed it, pizza. That’s why I’ve but together a quick round-up of some of my recent Miami favorites – from a classic Cuban pizza joint to a a couple of new Neapolitan outposts to, yes, a NYC-style hipster hangout. Bet you can’t get that combo in the Five Boroughs, can you?
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Miami foodies! Today marks a day of celebration for all of us who like to booze and happen to like the color green. We hope you get to enjoy some of the great festivities happening around town, imbibe in some Irish whisky, drink lots of green beer, and do all of the above safely! We’re helping you kick-start the celebrations with our weekly Foodie Friday link pack. Enjoy!
My first official gig as an #MMTM contributor (sounds fancy, huh?) was nothing short of spectacular. Thanks to my pals, Mitch & Mel, who know me so well, they sent me on a foodie adventure made up of a few of my favorite things – burgers, pizza and cocktails (oh my!). Yes, perfect for that oh-so-hot summer bikini bod, you say? Maybe, maybe not. But that’s never stopped me before. So, I was beyond thrilled to learn I’d be experiencing Pizza & Burger – Michael’s Backyard Kitchen, the new savory summer pop-up from nationally acclaimed star chef Michael Mina.
It’s no secret that Barley is one of my favorite restaurants in Miami (see: Exhibits A & B), so, needless to say, it hasn’t been easy waiting for the new-and-improved American Brasserie to reopen in its new Downtown Dadeland location later this year. Luckily for me, and all of you, chef/owner Jorgie Ramos has been keeping himself busy with a pet project called Faith & Pizza, a little pizza joint (also in Downtown Dadeland) that serves up near-perfect pies, great gastropub grub, and a plentiful portion of philanthropy.
I’ve never been to Italy. I’ve always wanted to go, but for years my European wanderlust has always landed me in Spain. Have I mentioned I love Spain? I can almost hear you all groaning. Alright, alright, back to Italy. Any foodie worth his salt has undoubtedly dreamt of eating their way up and down the country and I am no different. While the rest of my body waits to make its way over to the land of pizza and pasta, at least my tastebuds can get a “Tour of Italy” at Midtown’s Bocce Ristorante.
