On this edition of #MiamiSpiceMonday, we conquer the South. Soulful Southern cuisine is synonymous with comfort and indulgence. Vivid images of fried chicken and mashed potatoes come to mind. I’ve always enjoyed the splurge of eating anything fried and not having to feel apologetic about it and as so, Southern food holds a special place in my heart. This Southern menu’s scene? Swine Southern Table & Bar, a self-proclaimed “house of worship to the porcine pursuit.” The simple and uncomplicated nature of Southern cuisine makes for a great gathering of friends and family over food; Swine offers just that. Providing a laid-back and soul-healing ambience in a two-floor space in Coral Gables that has traces of fancy lighting and décor but at its core remains comfy and cool.
One of the best things about the Miami Spice program is that it gives diners a reason to explore some of the city’s culinary offerings that they may not choose under normal circumstances. Some people lean towards high-end restaurants that regularly seem out of reach, some go for new restaurants just joining the local food scene, some try cuisines that are out of there comfort zone, and some are intrigued by the restaurants they’ve never heard of.

As we all know by now, Miami Spice is a magical time in the Magic City when restaurants offer up special three-course menus at discounted prices. While some participating restaurants use the program to take risks and try out new dishes, many simply highlight what’s generally considered the best of their menu. Regardless, almost all stick to offering three courses – an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert.
That sound you hear is the rumbling of excitement as Miami once again prepares for another year of Miami Spice…or maybe it’s just our stomachs. The mouth-watering, annual restaurant promotion is back to once again to showcase the very best of Miami cuisine. For those of you who aren’t familiar, during the months of August and September, the price spice is right as local restaurants offer three-course meals featuring signature dishes at reduced prices. $23 for lunch and $39 for dinner.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…! Wait, maybe that’s Christmas. Anyway, although the song may be referring to something else, for us Miami foodies, Miami Spice is most definitely one of the most anticipated occurrences on our calendars. It’s a magical time when Miami’s best restaurants offer up mouth-watering promotions consisting of three-course meals at reduced prices ($23 for lunch; $39 for dinner) that showcase the very best of Miami cuisine.
On paper, the Miami New Times Iron Fork Miami Spice Kick Off is one of the elite culinary events on Miami’s social calendar. It combines the opportunity to taste signature dishes from dozens of local eateries, a cooking competition that features some of our city’s top chefs, a philanthropic partnership that brings awareness to child hunger, and, best of all, offers a sneak peek at some of the finest menus to be featured during the Miami Spice program. As foodies, we’ve attended the event in the past with differing experiences and relative mixed feelings, but were looking forward to attending this year’s bash – our first as food bloggers – with an open mind and new point of view.
