Miami Spice Monday: Gili’s Beach Club

By Mitchell Nover

Gili’s Beach Club (18001 Collins Ave, Sunny Isles Beach) is not your typical casual beachfront eatery. Serving up sophisticated Mediterranean-inspired fare like whole grilled fish, grilled lobster tail, and paella, the restaurant foregoes the the typical fried offerings that have, for some reason, become so popular on the sand. Making meals even more interactive, Gili’s features a “Lava Stone Experience” menu where guests grill their own food the table on a scorching 700-degree lava stone.

Miami Spice Monday: BLT Prime

By Mitchell Nover

What’s in a name? Unfortunately for BLT Prime (4400 NW 87th Ave, Doral) it means an affiliation with a certain President of the United States thanks to its location inside the &@%!# National Doral Miami hotel. Despite the name on the outside of the building, however, nothing comes between me and a good meal. So based on Mel’s recommendation from last year, I ventured into enemy territory to give it a try.

Miami Spice Monday: La Mar by Gaston Acurio

By Sophia Costabal

I have to start off by saying that I am a sucker for Peruvian food. There is something about the combinations of flavors and the heaping amounts of citrus in that cuisine that really tickles my taste buds. So, naturally, when I found out that I would be heading to La Mar (500 Brickell Key Dr, Miami) to get a first-hand look at their Miami Spice menu, I giggled like a little 9-year-old girl that has just found out she’s going to Disney to eat a Micky Mouse Ice Cream Sandwich (Me as a little girl. True Story).

Five of Chef Diego Oka’s culinary masterpiece creations in one night? Stick a Peruvian fork in me because I’m done. Literally. I didn’t even have room to eat the glorious dessert (in its entirety). Nine year old me would have been disappointed.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – SUSHISAMBA

By Caitlin Marino

We all know SUSHISAMBA as a well-known staple of Miami Beach’s famous landmark, Lincoln Road. You’ll always find outdoor dining tables under the enormous, and now iconic, orange umbrellas packed with natives and international travelers who all simultaneously sit outside to enjoy the novelty of people watching. On a warm September night, I headed over to try a few of the “Signature Items” as well as the specially-curated dinner menu highlighting the best of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian cuisine fusion for their Miami Spice menu created by Executive Chef Cesar Vega.

If you haven’t already indulged in a Miami Spice meal, we would encourage you to do so  rather soon since this special time of year is coming to an end next week. Remember to check out our #MiamiSpiceMonday series to get a few ideas. In the meantime, we leave you with our weekly fun, foodie link pack and wish you a wonderful weekend. Enjoy!

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Zest

By Mitchell Nover

The scariest 12 words during Miami Spice season are: “Sample menu. Changes daily. Call or check our website for daily menu.” Well, for me anyway. In case you haven’t noticed in my previous reviews, I’m a planner. I thrive on belaboring the decision making process, especially when it comes to selecting a Miami Spice menu, and the fear of the unknown is all too real. That said, for some reason this year I’ve been throwing caution to the wind with the #FOMO winning out over the #FOTU. My most recent example of this was my Miami Spice dinner at Zest.

1111 is a Peruvian Grand Slam

By Caitlin Marino

Upon arriving to 1111 Peruvian Bistro, I was delighted to find an elegant and sophisticated lounge with a friendly staff, which gave me the initial impression that there was a clear attempt to blend the relaxed environment of a casual tapas bar with the elegance of a high-end restaurant. I was welcomed, alongside many patrons who were also ending their workdays, with a similar need to relax and eat! The kitchen was fully visible and the intimacy of the restaurant was felt throughout. Once settled, it was time to recall what I knew of Peruvian cuisine, and learn more about 1111 which promised a novel twist on traditional dishes.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Lekoké Wine & Bites

By Melanie Galarce

There’s a common misconception that to take full advantage of the Miami Spiceculinary program the experience should be over the top, lavish, and slightly outside your comfort zone. However, I’m here to share an experience that was quite the opposite. You might already be fully aware that both Mitch and I are slightly biased to a small, understated, and slightly under-explored wine bar on 8th Street called Lekoké. We could write a four-page love letter to this quaint wine bar, with a collection of quirky, antique household items and a floor-to-ceiling collection of booze, but it’s the food, and, specifically, it’s Miami Spice-inspired menu that recently gave me a new reason to brag some more about this small gem.
