Miami Spice Monday: Gili’s Beach Club

By Mitchell Nover

Gili’s Beach Club (18001 Collins Ave, Sunny Isles Beach) is not your typical casual beachfront eatery. Serving up sophisticated Mediterranean-inspired fare like whole grilled fish, grilled lobster tail, and paella, the restaurant foregoes the the typical fried offerings that have, for some reason, become so popular on the sand. Making meals even more interactive, Gili’s features a “Lava Stone Experience” menu where guests grill their own food the table on a scorching 700-degree lava stone.

Miami Spice Monday: BLT Prime

By Mitchell Nover

What’s in a name? Unfortunately for BLT Prime (4400 NW 87th Ave, Doral) it means an affiliation with a certain President of the United States thanks to its location inside the &@%!# National Doral Miami hotel. Despite the name on the outside of the building, however, nothing comes between me and a good meal. So based on Mel’s recommendation from last year, I ventured into enemy territory to give it a try.

Miami Spice Monday: La Mar by Gaston Acurio

By Sophia Costabal

I have to start off by saying that I am a sucker for Peruvian food. There is something about the combinations of flavors and the heaping amounts of citrus in that cuisine that really tickles my taste buds. So, naturally, when I found out that I would be heading to La Mar (500 Brickell Key Dr, Miami) to get a first-hand look at their Miami Spice menu, I giggled like a little 9-year-old girl that has just found out she’s going to Disney to eat a Micky Mouse Ice Cream Sandwich (Me as a little girl. True Story).

Five of Chef Diego Oka’s culinary masterpiece creations in one night? Stick a Peruvian fork in me because I’m done. Literally. I didn’t even have room to eat the glorious dessert (in its entirety). Nine year old me would have been disappointed.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Zest

By Mitchell Nover

The scariest 12 words during Miami Spice season are: “Sample menu. Changes daily. Call or check our website for daily menu.” Well, for me anyway. In case you haven’t noticed in my previous reviews, I’m a planner. I thrive on belaboring the decision making process, especially when it comes to selecting a Miami Spice menu, and the fear of the unknown is all too real. That said, for some reason this year I’ve been throwing caution to the wind with the #FOMO winning out over the #FOTU. My most recent example of this was my Miami Spice dinner at Zest.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Tamara’s Bistro at The National Hotel

By Mahogani Jones

The National Hotel is known for its legendary grace, Art Deco style, and Miami Beach’s longest infinity-edge pool. The only descriptor that must never be omitted from their identity is its extraordinary restaurant: Tamara’s Bistro. From colorful mosaic ceilings to exceptional service, the character and vivacity of Tamara’s Bistro radiates throughout the room from the moment you arrive. And that’s not even the best part of the venue. The degustation menu at Tamara’s Bistro is like none other. Just when you thought exploring new interpretations of contemporary international cuisines was enough to satisfy your stomach, Chef Matthew adds a “Miami twist” to each menu item that’s sure to have your taste buds singing high praises.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Novecento

By Caitlin Marino

This week’s edition of #MiamiSpiceMonday brings MMTM to one of my favorite Miami establishments – Novecento. Known for its family-friendly environment, Novecento has maintained a great relationship with Miami locals and has expanded its South Florida presence to four locations over the past decade. The original Brickell location opened in 2004 and has been delighting patrons ever since with a charming ambiance both inside and outside on a quaint patio, tempting taste buds with exquisite Argentine, Mediterranean, and Pan-Latin flavored signature dishes.

The Return of #MiamiSpiceMonday with BLT Prime

By: Melanie Galarce

It’s August 1st, and that means the official start of the ever-popular culinary program: Miami Spice. For those of you who have recently settled into Miami as home, Miami Spice is sort of like the Mecca for foodies in the 305. The concept is simple; some of the most established restaurants in Miami offer pre-set lunch and dinner menus giving you a sneak peek into establishments that may have otherwise been out of your reach. Mitch and I love everything about Miami Spice, and the opportunity it lends foodies to discover our city. As such, MMTM is bringing back our summer series, #MiamiSpiceMonday. Every Monday from now until the end of September (to coincide with the end of the program,) we will share a Miami Spice experience in hopes that it will help you navigate the culinary tour de force that takes over our city.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Alter

This edition of #MiamiSpiceMonday is a special one. It’s not only our last Miami Spice review since the season comes to an end, but we’ll also be sharing a lunch experience rather than the dinner journeys we’ve been telling you about for the last two months.

This review takes us to heart of Wynwood and a 65-seat restaurant by the audacious name of Alter. It’s the brainchild of Chef Brad Kilgore, who sports an impressive resume that includes gigs at J&G Grill at Bal Harbour and Azul.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – The Restaurant at the Setai

When we heard late last week that executive chef of The Restaurant at the Setai and recent Chopped champion, Mathias Gervais, had announced Jaya, a new pan-Asian restaurant concept coming to the Setai this fall, things started to finally make sense. I say this because when I ventured over to The Setai to check out The Restaurant’s Miami Spice menu, the Asian-inspired offerings had no relation whatsoever to regular menu, considering it is described as featuring “various cuisines and traditional flavors of Europe’s ‘Sun Coast,’ inclusive of the Mediterranean regions of Spain, Italy, the South of France and Provence.”
