A New Taste of Talde

By Mitchell Nover

Early last year, Mel raved about her experience at Talde Miami Beach (4041 Collins Ave, Miami Beach), praising the restaurant’s wide variety of Asian-American dishes served up in an eclectic, Brooklyn-esque environment, as a “progressive fusion of Asian and American dishes that took [her] out of [her] comfort zone.” Now, about a year and a half later, I had the opportunity to get my own taste of  Talde, which recently launched a new menu featuring a heavier focus on classic Chinese-driven dishes, of course with the Dale Talde spin we’ve all become accustomed to. Despite the changes to the menu, I’m here to tell you that Mel’s take still rings true.

Izaka-yasssss

By Mitchell Nover

Dragonfly Izakaya & Fish Market (5241 NW 87th Ave, Doral) is not your traditional Japanese restaurant. While it’s rooted in Japanese comfort food, its menu is a globally-inspired take on traditional Izakaya (aka Japanese gastropub) dishes. In addition to a raw bar, and extensive sushi and sashimi selection, Dragonfly also features a progressive beverage program and an adjoining fish market will nod to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan where guests can participate in educational seafood workshops and purchase items ranging from house-made bottled sauces to fresh seafood sourced locally and from exotic waters across the globe.

Chef’s Corner – Xavier Torres

Not too long ago, we told you about the wonderful experience we had at Drunken Dragon during their newly launched brunch service. We loved everything about the ingenious menu that stayed true to its Korean influence. Below is a collection of some of those non-Miami Spice foodie activities, offers, and events that may just pry some of your attention away from Miami Spice for a day or two. Enjoy!

Drunken Dragon Slays New Brunch

By Mitchell Nover

By now, the secret is out about Drunken Dragon. Nobody is fooled by that random red MARKET sign in a seemingly innocuous strip mall on Alton Road. We’re all very well aware of the surprise décor, super chic vibe, and the Asian-inspired wonders that are feasted upon inside, but that doesn’t mean that Chef Xavier Torres and team don’t continue to surprise us. Case in point: the new brunch menu.

Pork Chops

The Cochon555 U.S. Tour stop in Miami is the one time each year that some of our best chefs are challenges to show off their pork chops in a skills competition to raise awareness and generate education around heritage breed pigs in support of local family farms. Brady Lowe’s fantastic event – now in its seventh year and always one of our favorites – benefits a great cause and serves up lots of good food and tons of fun.

Pig Out!

As you’ve all read by now, last year’s Cochon 555 event left me in a state of porcine euphoria – pure hog heaven! Needless to say once this year’s competition dates and lineup was announced my mouth started watering immediately. This would be my second year at Cochon 555 (the event’s 7th consecutive and 5th in Miami) and I was 100% certain that I was ready, prepared, and willing to crush it. I mean, I’d had a full year of blogging under my belt, basically making me a professional eater. So, when the day came this past Sunday, I was determined to pig out. And you know I did…
