Miami Spice Monday: Fooq’s

By Melanie Galarce

We’re back to regular programming here at MMTM headquarters and hope that you and your loved ones are all safe after Hurricane Irma.

Remember that time we told you all about Fooq’s (1035 N Miami Ave, Miami), the quaint and posh (yet unassuming) little spot in Downtown Miami, and their dinner and brunch offerings? Recently, I headed back to this little spot to check out their Miami Spice menu and I’m here to tell you, you’ll want to pay a visit before the end of the month too.

The Magic of Meraki Greek Bistro

By Melanie Galarce

Meraki Greek Bistro (142 SE 1st Avenue, Miami) is a newly-opened restaurant tucked away in the heart of Downtown Miami. This bistro transports you to Greece with its charming outdoor patio of Greek Island-inspired decor, blue and white pillows, and large rustic tables, as well as an impressive interior design that includes an array of Hellenic artwork and beautiful hanging basket lights.

A Spanish State-of-Mind

By Monique Gonzalez

Long gone (and I mean LONG gone) are my study abroad days when life was carefree and my days were filled gallivanting throughout Spain in search of yet another pair of espadrilles or the next best chupitería. Fast forward X number of years later (well, because I refuse to divulge the actual number), my love for all things Spanish is still as palpable. So palpable, that quite often I find myself in need of a Spanish fix.

STK is a big WIN

By Melanie Galarce

Most out-of-towners tend to have one general thought about Miami: it’s so sexy. Well, they’re probably right. Everything in our city tends to be on the risqué and slightly cooler side. As so, a sexy steakhouse is a must for us locals and that’s exactly what STK has established in Miami (should also be noted the sexiness spills over to its many locations across the world). STK is an ultrachic, modern steakhouse that offers a sophisticated menu that will not disappoint your taste buds. More than just a culinary experience, you can also expect a cool ambience, an in-house DJ (*during pre-determined hours) and modern, fun décor.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Zest

By Mitchell Nover

The scariest 12 words during Miami Spice season are: “Sample menu. Changes daily. Call or check our website for daily menu.” Well, for me anyway. In case you haven’t noticed in my previous reviews, I’m a planner. I thrive on belaboring the decision making process, especially when it comes to selecting a Miami Spice menu, and the fear of the unknown is all too real. That said, for some reason this year I’ve been throwing caution to the wind with the #FOMO winning out over the #FOTU. My most recent example of this was my Miami Spice dinner at Zest.

We Say ‘Si’ to Burrito San

By Caitlin Marino

There are times when I think that Miami is a city fixated on attempting to stay on trend with the ‘next best thing’ in food. One of those trends is the “hybrid” restaurant. Naturally, Miami lends it self to certain food hybrids being the melting pot of Latin (and other cultures) that it is. Think Nikkei (Peruvian and Japanese), Jamaisan (Jamaican and Chinese), and almost anything the Cuban community touches (from pizza to Chinese and more). Recently we’ve seen the arrival of more modern hybrids like Loba (Latin and Southern Comfort), Sarsaparilla Club (American Dim Sum), and Cardón y el Tirano (Pan-Latin). In my humble opinion, the geniuses at Burrito San became the newest MVPs of restaurant hybrids in our city when they decided to combine sushi and… burritos!

#MiamiSpiceMonday – PB Station

By Mitchell Nover

Reason 3,582 I love Miami Spice: it’s the perfect excuse to finally check out some new restaurants around town. The guaranteed three courses at a fixed price means that, if you go with a few friends, you can basically sample the entire menu for a fraction of the cost. It’s a great way to make a first impression. Such was my experience with my recent visit to PB Station at the Langford Hotel downtown.

Pawn Broker is Raising the Roof

By Mitchell Nover

Miami is severely lacking in rooftop bars. What NYC manages to master with only 3-ish months of warm weather, we somehow neglect to take advantage of with our endless summers and gorgeous views. I’m sure there are numerous reasons for this, but the biggest is most likely Miami’s non-existent downtown scene. Rooftop bars (at least in my mind) are most often associated with bustling metropolises and business people riding elevators to the top of a skyscraper for an afterwork cocktail among the clouds – quite the opposite of the pool and beachside hotel bars of which there are a plethora on Miami Beach. Well, in hopes of what will become a growing trend (and a revitalization of Downtown Miami), the Pubbelly Boys have taken their talents from South Beach with the creation of the Pawn Broker at the Langford Hotel.

Fooq’s Fabulous Brunch

I professed my love of Fooq’s dinner in our Best of 2015 round up and praised not only the food but also the cozy and cool ambience. I was pretty stoked when they announced that they would be serving brunch on Saturday’s under the helm of the restaurant’s new chef, Bryan Rojas.

During the holidays, Mitch and I took a weekend to catch up on the family madness going on in our lives and bond over the new brunch menu at Fooq’s to give us the strength needed to survive the holidays.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Downtown Bistro

As we all know by now, Miami Spice is a magical time in the Magic City when restaurants offer up special three-course menus at discounted prices. While some participating restaurants use the program to take risks and try out new dishes, many simply highlight what’s generally considered the best of their menu. Regardless, almost all stick to offering three courses – an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert.
