There’s a little spot in Hialeah that is bringing French cuisine to Miami and it’s pretty much all the rage. And yes, you read right – Hialeah. In a city of big names and superfluous restaurants, this mom-and-pop shop in the most unexpected of places is showing all foodies in Miami that great food comes from dedication, love, and a little innovation. At La Fresa Francesa (59 W 3rd St, Hialeah) you’ll find a French fare with a Miami influence and I can’t get enough.

Spring Break Brunching at Brasserie Azur

If you’ve ever been to the South of France, you know it’s a very unique experience. From Nice to Marseille to Saint-Tropez, the Côte d’Azur, the cities feel more like small beach towns that are somehow able to both offer feelings of casual comfort and ultra luxury. Brasserie Azur (3252 NE 1st Ave, Miami) is a great representation of that vibe, bringing a taste of the French Riviera to Midtown Miami.

Paris 6 is Full of Surprises

When I first heard of Paris 6 (2200 Collins Ave, Miami Beach), I didn’t know what to exactly make of it. A French-Brazilian 24-hour “diner” on South Beach serving refined food and cocktails in a luxurious setting? I had to go check it out. Paris 6 is an international concept with locations in Brazil that gains inspiration from Parisian bistros and brasseries. Walking in, it’s hard to not be impressed with the presentation of the restaurant. Dim lighting, vivid portraits, an ornate bar, chandeliers, and tufted red banquets come together to leave you slightly in awe of the beauty of the place. At first glance, the somewhat large menu was slightly intimidating. With over 100 items, it was hard to make a decision on what to sample, but overall we were pleasantly surprised with the flavors and overall presentation of the food.

#MiamiSpiceMonday – Downtown Bistro

As we all know by now, Miami Spice is a magical time in the Magic City when restaurants offer up special three-course menus at discounted prices. While some participating restaurants use the program to take risks and try out new dishes, many simply highlight what’s generally considered the best of their menu. Regardless, almost all stick to offering three courses – an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert.

MMTM’s 1st Birthday Party!

This past Friday, a gaggle of our friends, family, and followers joined us to celebrate our one year blogiversary. It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year already, and what a delicious year it’s been! We can’t thank you enough for all the support you’ve shown us over the past year as Mitch and Mel Takes Miami morphed from a speck of an idea in our brains into the creative outlet and true labor of love that it has become.

Downtown Decadence

Miami is more of a collection of neighborhoods than a true city. I’m not saying the city is disjointed; we residents know how to navigate our way from area to area and tourists generally stick to one zone at a time. My point is that there’s no real city center, and while Downtown Miami may be considered by some to be the cultural, financial, and commercial center of South Florida, there’s really not an established urban life there. That, however, all seems to be changing as Downtown is currently the fastest-growing area in Miami in terms of both construction and population, but the real litmus test – for me anyway – is when good restaurants and bars start popping up. If people are expected to live Downtown, they need to have nice places to eat and drink Downtown. Mel and I were recently invited to try such a spot, Downtown Bistro, which seems to have realized the same thing, evolving from being a strict “lunch rush” establishment to a full-blown decadent dining experience.
