Angelo Elia Sparks Pizza Potential

By Caitlin Marino

Hey, foodie fam! As alluded to in my Forte dei Marmi review a couple of weeks ago, I’ve had an  overhaul in my dietary lifestyle… After mistakenly watching a Netflix documentary about food, I did the unthinkable and became vegan. This coming from someone who had never been on a diet to going cold turkey and cutting out all animal products from one day to the next. However, life is all about balance, so cheat meals are just plain necessary and what better way to reward yourself for months of successfully sticking to a restrictive diet than with authentic, homemade pizza? Why pizza, you ask? Well, I believe in a past life I must have been Italian because the love I have for pizza, pasta, and wine is just not normal. The answer for any of the aforementioned items will ALWAYS be yes – vegan diet or not. Needless to say, I was over the moon when I found out that one of the new restaurants at CityPlace Doral was Angelo Elia Pizza (3535 NW 83rd Ave, Suite 133, Doral.) Even from just the entrance where an enormous wine vault affectionately greets you, I could tell this place had the potential to become a routine go-to option.

Miami Spice Monday: BLT Prime

By Mitchell Nover

What’s in a name? Unfortunately for BLT Prime (4400 NW 87th Ave, Doral) it means an affiliation with a certain President of the United States thanks to its location inside the &@%!# National Doral Miami hotel. Despite the name on the outside of the building, however, nothing comes between me and a good meal. So based on Mel’s recommendation from last year, I ventured into enemy territory to give it a try.

A Culinary Tour de Force at City Place Doral

By Caitlin Marino

City Place Doral (8300 Northwest 36 Street, Doral) has become the epicenter of the ever-booming city of Doral. Not only are there a myriad of upscale restaurants to accommodate the whole family (regardless of cravings), but CityPlace Doral is also home to shopping and entertainment options that make the chic establishment a one-stop shop for all. I was recently invited to visit three of the newly opened restaurants – Kings Bowl, Icebox Café and Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar & Tapas. Below is a gluttonous round-up of my experience, so you can get a few ideas for your next City Place Doral visit.

Bienvenidos a Bocas House

Bocas House (10200 NW 25th Street #101, Doral) offers a Peruvian/Venezuelan fusion menu where you can find classic dishes of said cuisine like ceviche and grilled meats. You’ll also find the buzzy milkshakes that have gained social media notoriety for their extravagance.

Izaka-yasssss

By Mitchell Nover

Dragonfly Izakaya & Fish Market (5241 NW 87th Ave, Doral) is not your traditional Japanese restaurant. While it’s rooted in Japanese comfort food, its menu is a globally-inspired take on traditional Izakaya (aka Japanese gastropub) dishes. In addition to a raw bar, and extensive sushi and sashimi selection, Dragonfly also features a progressive beverage program and an adjoining fish market will nod to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan where guests can participate in educational seafood workshops and purchase items ranging from house-made bottled sauces to fresh seafood sourced locally and from exotic waters across the globe.

Putting Peru on the Plate

By Mitchell Nover

There’s no doubt in my mind that Peruvian cuisine is the star of the Latin food world. Widely varied and nuanced, it pulls influence from numerous cultures (Inca, African, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and more) and regional cooking styles (Andean, Caribbean, Coastal Pacific, Amazonean). Unlike other one note (albeit delicious) Latin cuisines, Peruvian food offers layers upon layers of flavor technique that continue to surprise me the more I experience them. Luckily for me, and for all of us, those experiences are happening more and more often. Here in Miami, in addition to many other cities around the world, Peruvian restaurants continue to pop up on the dining scene, with each one offering up delicacies just different enough from the last.

Macaron Madness

By Caitlin Marino

Miami, amongst other U.S. cities, has recently developed an exciting interest in one of my favorite French delicacies – the macaron. Maybe because we crave to experience a piece of a nostalgic European trip or simply want to know what it would be like to taste true Parisian cuisine. Either way, I couldn’t be happier to see the macaron obsession make its way into Miami’s culinary scene. Le Macaron is leading the French pastry expansion across South Florida and recently opened its sixth location in a charming kiosk station in Dolphin Mall’s food court. I headed over on a recent Monday to check it out and reward myself for making it through the worst day of the week.

The Return of #MiamiSpiceMonday with BLT Prime

By: Melanie Galarce

It’s August 1st, and that means the official start of the ever-popular culinary program: Miami Spice. For those of you who have recently settled into Miami as home, Miami Spice is sort of like the Mecca for foodies in the 305. The concept is simple; some of the most established restaurants in Miami offer pre-set lunch and dinner menus giving you a sneak peek into establishments that may have otherwise been out of your reach. Mitch and I love everything about Miami Spice, and the opportunity it lends foodies to discover our city. As such, MMTM is bringing back our summer series, #MiamiSpiceMonday. Every Monday from now until the end of September (to coincide with the end of the program,) we will share a Miami Spice experience in hopes that it will help you navigate the culinary tour de force that takes over our city.
