Welcome to another edition of Foodie Friday! We’ve officially survived the first (and never ending) month of 2018. As February gets into full swing, we hope you have some Valentine’s Day plans lined up that include a decent meal and tons of wine with your significant other, or with yourself since the day is a celebration of all love. And, of course, that there’s chocolate involved. Lots of it. While you take some time to plan for the mid-week holiday, we hope you enjoy this week’s foodie link pack!

Hi there, Hami here! I’m excited to be contributing again for my pals, Mitch & Mel! I just love it when they send me on pawsome foodie assignments. My mission this time? To visit the newest culinary addition to the Avalon Hotel – Craft Cafe (700 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach). On a particularly windy and sunny Sunday morning, I headed to the Craft Café to be completely blown away and the selection of drool-worthy creative coffee concoctions. Yes, that’s right. BLOWN. AWAY. Figuratively and literally! Just check out my wind-swept beard!
Welcome to the first Foodie Friday of November! We can’t believe that 2016 will soon be a distant memory (but we’re really kinda happy about it.) This has been a tough week for most of us. We don’t want to amplify what you’ve probably been reading on Facebook for the last few days, but we do want you all to love a little bit harder this weekend. To tell a stranger that they matter and that they belong. And if by any chance you see a little girl, let her know she’s worthy and beautiful and she may just be the next President of the United States of America. Also, treat yourself to a cheat meal. A really good one. We all deserve it after this week. And, with that, we leave you with some non-political Foodie Friday links. Enjoy!
Daniel Choiseul Paguaga, Co-Founder & Head Roaster, Relentless Roasters
In today’s Behind the Bar, we’re once ahead back behind the coffee bar. We are serious coffee people and love that Miami’s coffee culture continues to grow and thrive beyond the ever-surging prices at Starbucks. Daniel Choiseul Paguaga, co-founder and head roaster at Relentless Roasters is helping to lead that charge and we recently caught up with him for a quick chat about his thoughts on all things coffee, Miami, and coffee in Miami.
Do you guys remember that question we ask chefs in our Chef’s Corner series, “If you can eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?” My answer is simple. Bread. I would eat bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner, unapologetically. In fact, this might be the first time I openly admit it, but sometimes at restaurants I get more excited about the bread basket than the actual meal itself. My name is Melanie and I am addicted to bread.
Edgardo Texidor, Barista/Corporate Trainer, Juan Valdez Café
In today’s Behind the Bar, we’re doing things a little bit differently. Instead of the cocktail bar, we’re going behind the coffee bar. We recently met Edgardo at a coffee cupping session at the new Juan Valdez Café in Downtown Miami and thought his upbeat personality and coffee knowledge would make for a great interview subject. So, here we are…
In my time, I’ve been lucky enough to experience a myriad of tastings. I’ve done my share of wine sipping in Napa and I worked for a liquor company that allowed me the opportunity to do tastings abroad with everything from rum and vodka to whisky. #blessed
However, when Mitch and I got a special invitation to check out our new neighborhood coffee shop, not only to see the space but also to participate in a cupping coffee session, I burst with excitement. Coffee tasting was a first for me and I was stoked.
Do you have any fun plans this week? We’re strategizing our Halloween costumes. Game of Thrones is at an all-time-high on the list. Do you have any fun foodie costumes? We’d love to hear about them! Although we will admit that somehow human hotdog doesn’t sound so appetizing. We’re also incredibly excited about the slightly ridiculous (and unnecessary) amount of candy that we’ll be eating as we prepare for Halloween in the coming weeks. While we try to decide what fun-size candy bars will be in full rotation this year, we leave you with a few fun foodie links from around the web.
It’s Fri-day peeps. That means the weekend awaits with food surprises looming in every corner. Can we officially call this the mid point of summer? If so, let’s just remember that all too soon the kids will be back in school and the beach will seem incredibly less attainable. So go out this weekend and make a genuine effort to discover the outdoors (with some inevitable sweat) or just hibernate at your favorite restaurant to indulge in some grub and some AC. Below we leave you with a few fun foodie links from around the web – enjoy!
We’re huge coffee fans at MMTM and admittedly drink one too many cups of coffee a day. When we heard Nespresso was having a coffee tasting tour across the country with a stop in Miami to promote their new VertuoLine product, we got all giddy. This last Sunday, we headed over to their first stop in Miami at Aventura Mall to see what the buzz was all about.
