Congratulations foodies, just like that you’ve made it through another work week! Do you have anything fun planned this weekend? We continue to explore our city to offer you the best of restaurants and culinary experiences to enjoy this summer. Although it’s miserably hot these days, we’re trying to stay cool with cold drinks, lots of paletas, and the occasional frozen cocktail (or mocktail for Mel since she’s cooking a little foodie in her belly). We hope you’re doing the same! In the meantime, we leave you with a few fun foodie links from around the web. Enjoy!

Miami’s burger fanatics have come to know and love Burger and Beer Joint (affectionately called B&B amongst locals) with its locations in Miami Beach and Brickell since 2009. The restaurant is known for its pairing of outrageous burgers and its no-frills, authentic sports bar vibe. Most recently, B&B opened its newest location in Dolphin Mall and it continues to the the perfect spot to rally the troops for an afternoon of enjoying finger lickin’ food, sharing a few pitchers of beer, and cheering on your favorite sports team.

When you think of countries with long, storied beer traditions, names like Germany, Belgium, and the U.S. come to mind. While Spain doesn’t usually make that list, trust me when I tell you there’s nothing like a cold beer paired with some tapas to cool down on a hot summer day in Andalucía. When I studied in Spain I was obsessed with Cervezas Alhambra, the very first brewery in the city of Granada that dates back to 1925.

It was All Hallows’ Eve in Miami and on a quiet street in Wynwood amongst dark warehouses and closed art galleries, people were gathering for a social dining experience known as Dinner Lab. With a menu created and prepared by Chef Andrew Gerson, Brooklyn Brewery’s mad culinary scientist, the party guests were in for a scary meal… Scary good that is!
In Miami we don’t do anything half-assed. We go big, or we go home. For instance… We don’t have one measly restaurant week; we have Miami Spice, a two-month promotion showcasing the very best of Miami cuisine! We don’t limit ourselves to one spa month; Miami Spa Month lasts for two months, despite its name! We don’t host just any old food or art festivals; we host the South Beach Wine & Food Festival and Art Basel Miami Beach! We don’t have normal economic downturns; we launch all-out fiscal crises, especially when it comes to real estate booms and busts! (OK, so maybe that last one wasn’t the best example.) And finally, we don’t just do your run-of-the-mill pub or restaurant crawls; we do tapas journeys!
Do you guys have any fun plans this weekend? We’re over here just trying to survive the summer heat. For some reason, August days seem to move like molasses and we can’t decide if we love or hate it. What subconsciously keeps us going is that September is around the corner and that translates into milder weather and a very close holiday season. So while we dream of cooler days, grab a cocktail (preferably a beer because it’s so damn hot) and enjoy our friday round up of cool foodie links! Enjoy!
Welcome to the dogs days of summer. Where the humidity hates your hair and the rain comes without a flinch every day at 3 pm. These are the semi-dreaded summer days in Miami. It’s always hard to understand why the rest of America is so enamored with summer when the season for us is slightly miserable. Regardless of the incredibly dull routine of summer, we recommend taking shelter in your favorite restaurant or making it a point to discovery a culinary gem in your neighborhood. There’s always an upside! So while you plan your next restaurant rendezvous, we leave you with a few foodie links from around the web!
What’s better than a delicious plate of food with an ice-cold beer? Well, Brewery Ommegang has developed a whole culinary competition based on a firm belief that great beer deserves great food. Now in its third year, the nationally acclaimed HopChef event nurtures and celebrates the beer and food-loving community, and this Monday visited our fair city for the first time ever as part of an eight city nationwide tour.
