It’s officially the last Foodie Friday of 2016 and we’re feeling a little nostalgic. This year was a bit of rollercoaster for us. We had tons of high moments, but there were also plenty of crappy ones that were really darn low. However, the one consistent thing throughout the year was how awesome and loyal the foodie community continues to be to us, and we’re so thankful to you! We’re taking a week off to regroup and come back full force with more foodie news in 2017. In the meantime, we leave with you with some fun foodie links from around the web and we wish you and your families a great holiday season and a prosperous 2017! Something tells us it’s going to be an amazing year!

This year’s holiday season is doubly joyous, with Christmas and Hanukkah overlapping for the first time in a while. However, double the fun also means double the work, with the preceding weeks full of gift wrapping, cocktail parties, cookie swaps, tree cutting, candle lighting, and nights of home decorating. So, why not save some energy with a relaxed holiday meal prepared for you by some of the city’s finest chefs and cooks? Miami eateries are offering a number of delightful dining options, including prix-fixe dinners, buffet spreads, a la carte options, and prepared meals ready for you to take home. Read on for our picks of some of the great restaurant meals that can be enjoyed, fuss-free, during Hanukkah and Christmas – a.k.a. Chrismukkah.
With another season of Art Basel under our belts, it’s officially time to start thinking of our holiday shopping list. As we prep to start crossing off names from our list, we can’t help but wonder what exactly we should get for all the foodies in our lives. Whether it’s Christmas or Hanukkah, we know you’re in the midst of trying to lock in all the right gifts as well, so we’re going to make things a tad bit easier for you by rounding up some of our favorite foodie gifts of 2016. Enjoy!
We finally made it to December and the holidays are upon us! It certainly is the most wonderful time of the year, especially for us foodies. The Thanksgiving appetizer is behind us and we’re ready to dig into the main course with Art Basel and Miami Art Week hitting their stride this weekend. And, we can’t forget the extreme amounts of lechón that will be entering our lives come Christmas and New Year’s (with a side of Hanukkah potato latkes for Mitch). As if that wasn’t enough, there’s still plenty to see and do, eat and drink this December in the Magic City. Below is our monthly round-up of what the month ahead has in store for us here in Miami. Enjoy!

Located in North Miami near the Biscayne Bay FIU campus, I checked out the newest player in the “build your own meal” field: Kappa Rolls + Bowls! Very similar to Chipotle, for example, the concept is, as the name suggests, a variety of rolls and bowls that can be totally customized. From the type of rice and protein included to the toppings and dressing, it’s all up to you.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to try Chef Andy Bates’ latest pop-up concept of his British restaurant, The Avenue, in the heart of Wynwood at Miam Cafe. You might know Chef Bates of local notoriety after winning the local competition, “The Search for Miami’s Next Great Restaurant Concept.” Although plans have slightly changed for Chef Bates, the one thing that still remains strong is his love of British food and his intention of sharing it with the Miami foodie community.

This Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. With 151 million people having shopped over Black Friday weekend last year, there’s no doubt that many of you will be heading to some sort of mall or shopping center this year. And you know what you’ll need to do ensure you don’t shop ’til you drop? Eat!

Long gone (and I mean LONG gone) are my study abroad days when life was carefree and my days were filled gallivanting throughout Spain in search of yet another pair of espadrilles or the next best chupitería. Fast forward X number of years later (well, because I refuse to divulge the actual number), my love for all things Spanish is still as palpable. So palpable, that quite often I find myself in need of a Spanish fix.
