Sunday Brunchday at Nikki Beach

By Mahogani Jones

Sunday Funday has officially taken on a new meaning. In fact, every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. should be deemed “Sunday BrunchDay” in recognition of “The Nikki Beach World Famous Amazing Sunday Brunch.” For $49.95, this world-famous phenomenon offers all you can eat (literally) and more!

You want beach (or “bae”) views, they got it! With your choice of outdoor dining or cabana beds situated directly on the Miami Beach sand, enjoying beautiful people, gorgeous weather, and an amazing atmosphere for brunch is the Nikki Beach way of life. And adding a resident DJ as well as live entertainment simply elevates the positive aura of your experience.

But the best part of it all: With a culinary arrangement like no other, Chef Frank Ferreiro rolls out the red carpet of food (and drinks) for your feasting pleasure and rolls up decadent ice cream to conclude your not so average brunch. Want to learn more?

Let’s start with cocktails, because who fancies brunch without mimosas and/or bloody Marys?! When Nikki Beach’s Grade-A wait staff greets you at the table, they will politely introduce themselves, welcome you to the world’s best brunch, and ask what you would like to drink. For $7 each, fresh mimosas, house champagne, or gourmet (yes, gourmet) bloody Marys will be hitting your palate in no time. Personally, if you are in the mood to splurge a little more, pitchers of mojito are the way to go. As soon as they touch your lips, you will totally understand why you won’t want just one.

The same goes for the dining experience. Your taste and sight receptors (in addition to your interest in what to sample) will peak beyond imaginable heights because everything looks and tastes so good; you won’t know where to begin or which plate you should get seconds of.

First let’s talk about the Eggs Benny Casserole. When you combine an egg (cooked sous vide) and your choice of either serrano ham, spinach, or salmon, with an English muffin and a specially curated hollandaise sauce, then place it in a terra-cotta cazuela to bake in front of your eyes, all you can do next is EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

Now that you’re salivating, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that “made to order” must be Nikki Beach’s middle name. From omelets and crepes to paella and pasta, whatever you envision in these traditional dishes can come to life before your eyes:

  • With fresh spinach, ripe tomatoes, blended cheeses, and a variety of diced meats (just to name a few ingredients), what more can you ask for to be whisked in your choice of farm-fresh eggs or egg whites?
  • Delicious crepes and waffles can be whipped up right away and complimented with anything from Nutella and homemade dulce de leche to fresh strawberries and chocolate ganache.
  • Mostaccioli. Penne? That’s right. Not only can you select the delicious ingredients (such as shrimp, sausage, peppers, etc.), but you have pasta options delivered to perfection in just minutes.

The menu items not made to order are still set-up in stations that will have you wishing you had a second stomach to consume everything. Nikki Beach’s breakfast station does not miss a beat. Bacon, fresh toast, hash browns … If you have thought of it for breakfast, you will find it amongst the array. The weekly carving station has Provence-style roasted free-range chicken and slow roasted herb crusted prime rib of beef as staples. And if that weren’t enough, it always treats you to a different specialty item each week. Traditional fresh fruit is always available, and can be paired nicely with contents from the artisan cheese and bread display. The venue’s salad bar is extraordinary with ranges from a classic Caesar salad to a grilled seasonal veggie platter drizzled with truffle oil. You will instantly want to switch palates completely when you see the assorted sushi. No joke, there are boats of signature sushi rolls that would give any restaurant a run for their money. They even have a salmon station that will have you in awe.

I’m sure confusion is (most likely) an understatement after reading that. Don’t worry, any and every thing that is placed on your plate is a guaranteed delight. And just when you think you’ve gotten enough with the savory, you MUST remember to save room for the sweets. Yes, room for dessert is a requirement. If you have nothing else, rolling with (pun intended) the Thai-originated Rolled Ice Cream is mandatory.

For those who don’t know or haven’t seen this before, envision this: If a creamy base is spread on a plate that’s chilled to 25 degrees below zero, it turns into ice cream. And at Nikki Beach, if you can’t decide between the Oreo or strawberry base, you’re in luck; you can have both. The on-site chef will simply scrape the thinly developed concoction into a roll and crown it with your desired toppings (whether it be sprinkles, syrup or crumbles cookies).

Mahogani’s take: I think we can all agree that being located on 1 Ocean Drive was intentionally designed: There is only ONE place you should be and that’s “The Nikki Beach World Famous Amazing Sunday Brunch.” For any other establishment, simply living up to that title would be quite daunting. For Nikki Beach, they took on the challenge and has passed (each and every Sunday) with flying colors! This is unequivocally MMTM tested and approved!

Standout dishes: My fave for the day was the deconstructed Eggs Benedict Casserole … No questions asked! And, on the sweet side? Definitely go for the Rolled Ice Cream. Trust and believe, it’s worth saving space in your stomach.
