On this edition of #FoodieFriends we’re indulging in the world of Hedonist/Shedonist. We recently met up for a Miami Spice dinner at Toscana Divino with Ari Kane, who co-founded the fun-loving blog with Daniella Veras. While they’ve recently grown their team to include stories from like-minded collaborators, on this night it was all about Ari.
Hedonism is the ethical theory that pleasure (in the sense of the satisfaction of desires) is the highest good and proper aim of human life, and Ari unabashedly lives that definition in his every day life. To some his honesty may seem crazy, off-putting, or just plain shtick, but to us it’s refreshingly genuine and we totally appreciate him for it.
The interview we captured below is a brief glimpse into his love of three of life’s greatest pleasures: traveling, drinking, and, our personal favorite, eating.
What is your favorite thing about Miami?
Weather, nonchalant atmosphere, and, of course, the delectable eye candy.
Which Miami neighborhood best personifies you?
I grew up in Miami Beach, where you can relax in tranquility or party like a rockstar.
Other than Miami, what foodie city would you like to live in?
How did you get into blogging?
I adore going to food events and one day the Shedonist (a.k.a. Daniella) invited me to cover the Burger Grind back in 2012 and just rolled with it from there.
Describe your blog in three words.
Foodgasmic, restaurants, events, and travel (as you can see, I don’t always follow directions).
How do you stay informed about the Miami food scene?
Following other foodie blogs and on social media.
What is your foodie motto?
Try everything, especially in varying combinations.
What are some of your non-food-related hobbies?
There is a life outside of food?!?!
Concerts, traveling, and charity.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Trotting across the globe, eating at the finest spots and hidden gems, meeting extraordinary people, and recording it.
Which talent would you most like to have?
Patience and losing weight by smiling.
If you only could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Who is your favorite chef and why?
Too many faves, must plead the 5th.
What food trend are you most into right now and what food trend would you most like to go away?
I’m into organics and would banish salted caramel.
Do you cook? If so, what’s your favorite dish to prepare?
The Shedonist cooks a bangin’ fish in coconut sauce, but I’m more of an optimizer. I can taste something and know what to add to improve it, kinda like Larry David.
Cheers to our #FoodieFriends and their own great adventure around our city!
