Happy New Year, foodies! We hope you had a good holiday season, filled with lots of good times with family and friends – and food, of course. Even though the festivities are officially over, we all know that here in Miami the celebration never ends. As January gets into full swing, there’s lots going on in the food scene with more openings, special menus and fun foodie events. And, as per usual, we’ve rounded up the best of the best below in our monthly Foodie Friday – Local Edition. Enjoy!
New Restaurant Openings
After two years of phenomenal food truck success, die-hard celebrity fans, and over 26K Instagram followers, the World Famous House of Mac opened its first-ever free-standing restaurant on South Beach last month. Known for his unique spin on traditional cuisine, owner Derrick Turton (also known as “Chef Teach”) whips up succulent delights like jerk salmon pasta, fried chicken & pumpkin spice waffles, and his signature World Famous Mac & Cheese, including top picks Five Cheese Truffle Mac, Pizza Mac, and Lobster Mac.
Le Chick Rotisserie, Wynwood’s first rotisserie-themed restaurant, will officially be opening its doors to the public in early-2018. Inspired by Rotisserie Amsterdam, a Dutch hotspot made famous by its rotisserie chicken, burgers, and a cocktail bar, Le Chick will be a destination for cocktails, comfort food, and, of course, Rotisserie chicken served in a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant will also offer live music programming on a weekly basis, while an outdoor patio equipped with its own bar and lounge seating will debut following the grand opening.
Special Menus & Additional Offerings
Phuc Yea has answered Miami’s void for hawker-style southeast Asian cuisine with the launch of its new Pho Mi menu. Part “Pho” and part “Banh Mi,” Pho Mi is 100% ghost restaurant and ready to serve you those classic Vietnamese eats you constantly crave. And the best part is that it comes straight to you via UberEats! Keeping in line with Phuc Yea’s culinary ethos, Pho Mi will certainly offer the more traditional Vietnamese dishes, but will also feature other dishes mashed up with some Miami sensibility and swagger.
Two Michelin Star Chef Antonio Mellino kicks off the New Year with a weekly culinary journey called Michelin Mondays at Forte dei Marmi. Beginning January 8th, the Italian eatery with its sophisticated simplicity becomes all the more accessible with a 3 course pre-fixe menu for $60, which will feature signature options of freshly procured and skillfully prepared local organic produce, farm-raised prime meats, and wild-caught seafood and fish. Each week’s menu will feature a different special offering, encouraging guests to revisit for a new experience each time.

For January’s Cellar 1954, StripSteak by Michael Mina will be hosting an exclusive wine pairing dinner featuring selections from Napa Valley’s PlumpJack, Cade and Odette Wineries on Wednesday, January 24th. Beginning at 7PM, guests will enjoy a three-course dinner, hosted by the sister wineries’ winemaker Danielle Cyrot with StripSteak’s talented culinary team headed by Chef de Cuisine William Crandall expertly pairing each course. The dinner is priced at $250 per person (all inclusive).
Inhale all of the good to come in 2018, and exhale the not-so-good from 2017, at Atton Brickell Miami’s new free activation, Sunday Yoga. The hour-long class is open to hotel guests and locals alike, and will follow a “sivananda” yoga style, which focuses on preserving the health and wellness of the practitioner. Free granola bars and power smoothies made with local fruits and natural sources will be provided as well. Classes take place at 9:30am every Sunday, and afterwards you can stay for a dip in the pool!
Cheers to local foodie adventures this month!
