Foodie Friday – Local Edition

Foodies, we did it! We’ve made it to December, thus wrapping up a very difficult, yet exciting year for us here at MMTM headquarters. While this year has brought us a few new things that have been tough to adjust to (cough, our president, cough), it has also brought us new things that have provided even greater moments of joy (new jobs, new friends, and even a new baby!). And through it all, we’ve counted on the support of all of you – our loyal readers and followers. But before we celebrate the arrival of 2018, we’ve still got one more month of foodie adventures to share with you. As such, below please enjoy our final round-up of openings, activities, and more!

New Restaurant Openings 
The Southbound Hospitality Group is pleased to announce two new food and beverage experiences from celebrated Miami chef Norman Van Aken to Wynwood — Three and No. 3 Social. Three, the flagship restaurant in Wynwood Arcade, surrounds guests with the nature- and art-infused inspirations of Florida culture. Highlighting Chef Van Aken’s New World Cuisine, the restaurant is one of the only in South Florida offering a fully prix fixe menu. There will be a 3- or 4-course menu as well as a 7-course Chef’s Tasting Menu.

No.3 Social, the only rooftop bar and lounge in Wynwood, features vibrant cocktails inspired with local ingredients, a carefully selected wine list, and locally crafted beers. The beverage and wine programs at both Three and No. 3 Social will complement Chef Van Aken’s menu with an eclectic wine list and a cocktail menu. The bar will also highlight highly curated soulful music to accompany the food, which pays homage to street foods from around the world while incorporating the flavors of Florida.

Chef José Mendín has opened Habitat, his highly anticipated new restaurant, 1 Hotel South Beach. For the ambitious new concept, Mendín and partners from the newly formed Food Comma Hospitality Group, have assembled a powerhouse team of international chefs with Angel Palacios at the forefront. Palacios returns to South Florida as Habitat’s chef de cuisine fifteen years after receiving national acclaim for the Miami outpost of La Broche – his two-star Michelin restaurant in Madrid. Now, Palacios and former protégé, Navarro, will work with Mendín and Spanish pastry chef Patricio Larrea, to deliver a genre-defying concept that seamlessly blends old world elegance with new world vitality to help reimagine restaurant dining in Miami. Created after extensive research, the menu fuses culinary creativity with comfortable dining, using fresh, local ingredients and masterful Michelin-star techniques. The menu respects the elements – fire, earth, air and water – and honors simplicity.

The Craftsman, a new Miami pop-up location of the popular Manhattan bar, is sticking around Mary Brickell Village through Fall 2018. Featuring craft cocktails, craft beer, and elevated casual cuisine, The Craftsman’s mission is to create a unique space, both relaxed and exciting, welcoming the diversity of the neighborhood without pretension for each and every guest.

Special Menus & Additional Offerings
Coming up on a two-year anniversary this month, NaiYaRa has unveiled an array of new menu items. Complementing his signature items, Chef Bee’s new creations are inspired by the authentic Thai street food of his childhood, including Pla Goong Salad (shrimp mixed with kaffir lime leaf lemongrass, sweet chili yam dressing, and the crunch of iceberg lettuce); Chiang Rai Sausage (a pork sausage seasoned with galangal, turmeric, coriander, and the fiery nahm prik noom Thai chile dip); Laad Nah (consisting of crispy chow fun noodles with white pepper chicken, soy bean gravy, bok choi, and jalapeño vinegar); Panang Curry (slow roasted lamb shank, green beans, peanuts, and jasmine rice); and Sweet Roti (pan-fried Thai flatbread drizzled with condensed milk and cinnamon crumble, served with green tea ice cream) for dessert.

One of Sunset Harbour’s hottest new restaurants, Stiltsville Fish Bar, is launching weekend brunch, available a la carte Friday through Sunday from 11AM to 3PM. Guests can kick back, relax, and enjoy the ultimate brunch experience with a plethora of options crafted by culinary duo Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth. The menu features modern takes on classic seafood dishes and refreshing cocktails made especially for brunch patrons.

Foodie Events & Happenings
Want to learn how to make Scarpetta’s acclaimed pasta dishes at home? Scarpetta will be offering a pasta making class led by Chef de Cuisine Neil O’Connell and pasta maker, Roberto Fernandez. Launching Saturday, December 2nd, the interactive cooking class and demo will be offered the first Saturday of every month from 12-1:30PM. All classes are open to adults and children 12 years old and up for $75 per person. Over the course of 90 minutes, pasta lovers will learn basic dough making, tomato sauce, ravioli, and spaghetti, covering handling, cooking, and serving of pasta. The class will finish with a tasting of the delicious dishes they made. Completed recipe cards for the tomato sauce and pasta dough will be provided to each guest.

Museum of Ice Cream is excited to announce the opening of their fourth location, coming to Miami Beach this December. Bringing people together through art, design, and innovation, Museum of Ice Cream provokes curiosity and imagination in both the physical and digital worlds. Founder and Creative Director, Maryellis Bunn chose sunny Miami as their next location to celebrate its diverse and culturally inclusive environment in which she immersed herself to source the inspiration. The four-story building designed by OMA in the Faena District in Mid-Beach showcases iconic art deco elements and contemporary interiors alongside stunning ocean views. Museum of Ice Cream proudly serves as a safe environment for visitors to embrace their imagination and creativity. The Miami location officially opens to the public on December 13th.

Get ready for Taste of Nobu on December 15th, an over-the-top evening full of sake, champagne, and unique bites with Chef Nobu and his global team of executive chefs. Each chef will represent their city at a private tasting table with signature Nobu items. Enjoy a silent auction where unique items will be featured signed by Chef Nobu; an exclusive dinner for two at A-list heaven, Nobu Malibu; a two-night stay at Nobu Hotel Miami Beach; and more. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
