Foodie Friday – Local Edition

Happy August, foodies! The dog days of summer are officially here, and so is Miami Spice! For the next two months, we’ll all be enjoying prix fixe meals all over town (now including brunch), and specifically here at MMTM Headquarters we’ll be giving you our “takes” on the best menus in the return of our #MiamiSpiceMonday series. But, just because Miami Spice is here, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great foodie happenings taking place in South Florida. Check out the below for all the new openings, special offerings, and more in our monthly Foodie Friday – Local Edition round-up. Enjoy!

New Restaurant Openings & Menu Additions
Lutum, the latest restaurant concept by El Grito partners Washington Charles and Antar Sosa, is coming soon to the Sunset Harbour neighborhood on South Beach. The Latin word for dirt and soil, Lutum promises to keep the food and cocktails simple and fresh. Lutum is set to open Tuesday, August 8th for dinner service.

Juanchi’s Burger is coming to Miami! The Venezuela-born burger joint also has locations in Aruba and Brooklyn, with a focus on mastering the art of handcraft burgers as well as an exquisite selection of craft beers. The interiors and ambience are quite unique as they allow independent artists to use the space as their canvas. Music is also big for them and so is community. More just burgers and beers, Juanchi’s is about building culture and leaving a legacy. Check them out on Coral Way when they open later this summer.

Food meets art at the new LaMuse Café in Brickell. Located at the luxurious EPIC Miami hotel and nestled inside Avant Gallery – Miami’s celebrated contemporary art space that features an eclectic array of artists who specialize in painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media, The café plates inspired bites, brews tasteful coffees and teas, and conveniently offers a grab & go options for those who don’t have time to tour its award-winning art gallery.

Plomo Tequila & Taco Bar has officially hopped on the Taco Tuesdays bandwagon. Every Tuesday, guests can now indulge in $3 tacos, marked down from their original $4 – $4.50 price, ALL DAY. But, just because it’s Taco Tuesday doesn’t mean the only specials are on tacos… Dive into a few cocktail/drink options to pair with your tacos including: Modelo Especial for $3, margaritas for $5 by the glass or $20 by the pitcher, palomas for $5, Ambrosia sangria for $5 by the glass or $18 by the pitcher, and micheladas for 5$.

Looking to cool down this summer with a refreshing cocktail? PM Fish and Steak House, the Brickell restaurant celebrated for its authentic take on traditional Argentine dining, is taking happy hour to another level with the introduction of a new cocktail menu featuring six signature libations. Guests can enjoy anytime or relax and unwind during happy hour Monday through Friday from 4-7PM. With highlights such as the PM Moscow Mule, the Cambalache featuring mezcal and hibiscus flowers, and the Santa Rosa using guava and rum, PM’s fresh take on cocktails has “raised the steaks.”

South American fare meets American cuisine in Casa Faena’s charming café with (Not Your) Basic Beach Brunch. Available every Sunday from 11AM until 3PM, this a la carte brunch offers traditional South American dishes like Wagyu Beef Empanadas and Churrasco alongside classic American cuisine, including Lobster Eggs Benedict and Pork Belly & Grits. Sip on specialty cachaça cocktails or opt for bottomless bellinis and mimosas while live musical performances by bossa nova-inspired artists set the tone for this weekly dining experience in the café’s inviting bistro-style atmosphere and tropical outdoor veranda.

Bird & Bone, the Southern-style eatery at The Confidante Miami Beach, will launch its long-awaited brunch service this Sunday, August 6th, timed with the opening of its transformed dining room. Bird & Bone brunch will be hosted every Sunday from 11AM to 3PM with signature brunch dishes including a variety of options from light, healthy dishes to some of the Chef Hales’ heartier options for which he is known. New cocktails will also be offered with the brunch menu, including a Southern Orange Creamsicle Mimosa and Blackberry Bourbon Iced Tea. Drinks specials will include bottomless Mimosas, Bellinis, and Bloody Marys for $25, bottomless Ginger Peach Sangria for $35, and bottomless Rolling Rock Beer for $20 for the duration of brunch.

Special Menus & Offerings
This month, Nikki Beach Miami introduced “Break Room Beach” – the ultimate day off for those in the industry, featuring complimentary day beds, delicious menu offerings, $30 cocktail pitchers, and more. These specials are exclusively for industry folk who can recline on the beach club’s luxurious day beds or sit with their toes in the sand, teepee-side, while taking in the sun. “Break Room Beach” will take place every Tuesday from noon to 6 PM. For access, just show a valid Miami-Dade or Broward work ID or a business card from a local business.

Can’t decide what to have for lunch? Let the spread of meats, salads, and healthy bites at Quinto La Huella’s Chef’s Table entice you. Whether you are taking a quick lunch break or prefer to linger a little longer with an informal meeting, the Chef’s Table is the perfect weekday retreat. Available Tuesday through Friday from 12-3PM, the new experience costs $21++ per person.

Every Tuesday night from now through December, guests can indulge in authentic Italian cuisine on Miami Beach at Via Emilia 9 and receive 50% off the entire dinner menu (with the exception of Tortellini & Filet Mignon) at either 7PM or 9PM seatings. If you can’t make it then, no worries, Via Emilia 9 also offers 50% off the entire lunch menu for locals every Monday through Friday, as well as an incredible daily happy hour from 4-6:30PM with bottles of wine and selezione di affettati e formaggi all 50% off as well.

The Coconut Grove Business Improvement District wants you to “get away” to Coconut Grove to experience Wine Flight Wednesday where every week attendees can feel like they’re jetting off to a new exotic locale – like Thailand, Italy, France and Greece – by dining at one of Coconut Grove’s gourmet restaurants. As a nod to the 33133 area code, guests can enjoy a wine flight or bottle with an appetizer for only $33. This is a great opportunity to taste the neighborhood’s wide range of culinary offerings, check out new ambiances and experience favorite local spots all summer long. Participating restaurants include: Jaguar, Le Bouchon Du Grove, Panther Coffee, Boho, 33 Kitchen, BICE Bistro, Spartico, Atchana’s Homegrown Thai, Peacock Garden Café, and The Spillover. Wine Flight Wednesday will occur every Wednesday through September 27th during dinner hours.

The intrigue of sushi making will no longer be a mystery with Kiji Cuzco’s Sushi With A Twist Class! Chef Christian Altamirano will teach guests the ins and outs of making three different sushi rolls – with a side of bottomless sake and mimosas – on the second Saturday of every month, starting Saturday, August 12th! The class takes place at Kiji Cuzco’s vibrant indoor bar adorned by local art and neon lights and costs $55 per person, $100 for a couple, or $175 for a group of four. Individual guests and parties alike are sure to master their sushi skills and indulge their own creations in the colorful art district of Wynwood.

Pinch Kitchen has launched a Pinch Tasting Menu. The prix fixe menu includes some of the Pinch classics along with rotating specials each week and will be available during dinner service, Tuesday through Sunday, during the months of August and September. The cost of the Pinch Tasting Menu is $39 per person and includes an appetizer, entree, and a glass of house wine or draft beer.

Foodie Events & Happenings
As a part of their elevated programming at the rebranded B Bistro + Bakery, the restaurant has launched NISEI, a limited time, omakase-style, Japanese-Peruvian dinner series. Named after the Japanese-language term used in North and South America for those born to Japanese immigrants, NISEI, will be an exclusive dinner event featuring Nikkei cuisine, served after hours. With seatings from 7:30-10:00PM on Friday and Saturday evenings only, the tasting menu will feature nine courses of the chef’s choosing for $55 per person. The next available dates are this weekend (August 4th and 5th), so make your resy’s now!

Join Repour Bar on Thursday, August 10th as they host their Rhythm and Remedies Summer Series. Come and enjoy live art and local vendors, including custom t-shirt cutting, vintage apparel, handmade jewelry, and more, beginning at 10PM. Drink specials will also be available all night long, including an $8 house punch and a $10 shot & beer special.

The GMCVB continues to celebrate the 16th anniversary of its acclaimed Miami Spice Restaurant Program with an evening of food, drinks and live entertainment at El Tucán, a modern-day Latin-inspired nightclub that brings food and celebration together in a sophisticated and high-energy atmosphere. On Friday, August 11th at 8PM, guests can enjoy a three-course meal showcasing the venue’s Miami Spice menu along with a live cabaret show. Priced at $55 per person, the special, one-night-only experience will include complimentary beverages from Miami Spice sponsors Stella Artois, Ketel One Vodka, Don Julio Tequila, Bulleit Bourbon, Zacapa Rum, Chandon California, Terrazas de los Andes and FIJI Water.
